Our first open evening on Tuesday 23rd September was a busy evening. The hall at Barnsbury School, where the evening was held, was packed with parents and children.
The children thought about what they would want to see in their ideal school and plastered a window with their wonderful ideas. The children thought hard about the things that they would like to see in their next school and many of their ideas are certainly things we will incorporate: singing lessons, music lessons, nice teachers, lots of sport, nice food, lots of art, lots of science, good school trips and dance clubs for example.
The year six students were then taken to separate classrooms for exciting and enriching activities: Street Dance with Holly’s School of Dance , an amazing science show with the Supersonic Science Professor and into the Dragon’s Den with Explore Learning.
Meanwhile, in the main hall we heard from John Gibson, Managing Director of the Schools Consultancy and an expert on Free Schools, about Free Schools and the process involved in opening one. The Hoe Valley Team also talked about our curriculum, the practicalities of how we will deliver the curriculum and we then had an update on our premises, the Head Teacher recruitment process and how to apply to Hoe Valley School.
The happy, if slightly sweaty, children returned having had a great time. We’re sure that they all discovered something new – either about science, business, dance or themselves.
Our next open evening is on October 16th – all are welcome. Any year six children that would like to take part in the activities should register on the open evening page of our website.
