All HVS students participated in a creative writing workshop today to celebrate World Book Day. Jeannie Waudby published her debut novel “One of Us” in January last year and she joined us for the day to share her passion and process.
Students developed opening sentences, created character ideas and discussed how to plant ‘clues’ in their writing to engage a reader.
Jeannie showed students her working documents for the book she initially conceived eight years ago. She also judged the winners for “500 Words” story writing competition. Students entered their 500 word stories to the Radio Two competition last week. In 3rd place was Amelia J, 2nd place, Jack and 1st place Leila. Our visiting author was impressed with the quality of the students ideas and admitting finding the choice difficult! The winners received book token prizes, as well as a creative writing book for 1st place.
Four lucky students won a copy of her novel in a prize draw raffle.
