There was great excitement this week when we took our head boy and head girl, Huey and Willow, to Egley Road to see the start of the main construction work and to put in the first spade. They have the honour of being the first two visitors signed onto site, and they met the building manager from Willmott Dixon who showed them the plans and talked them through the site safety procedures.
The initial work will be focused on mobilization and site set up, followed by commencement of the bulk earthworks which are needed to form the platform for the athletics track, building and pitches.
The school building, which is to be funded by the Education Funding Agency (EFA), occupies around 4 acres of the 22 acre site and includes the Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs). Woking Borough Council recently approved a loan to fund the community sports facilities that are also being built on the site. The school will have the sports hall and MUGAs dedicated for our use during the extended school day, and we will also be able to book the community facilities for some of our outdoor sports needs.
We are all delighted that this major milestone has been achieved on plan, and are now looking forward to the exciting times ahead as the Egley Road site develops.
