Interview with Deputy Head Boy, Harry

Are you scared of the earthquake that will hit Hoe Valley school?
“Yes, I am scared of the earthquake that is 7.2 on the richter scale”.

How would you feel if a earthquake hit?
“I feel scared and sad that the school is going to get destroyed”.

Interview with Mrs Hamilton-Wilkes, Governor

How do you feel about this earthquake?
“Its shocking and surprising at the same time”.

What do you think students should do?
“Use their really well thought out plans and sort out their main priorities”.

What would you do in order to keep students safe?
“Take them to an open space and put them into small groups and decide what will happen next”.

Are you aware that some students may fear that they will lose their lives?
“Yes, but it’s up to the staff to make sure the students feel safe that is why the planning is important”.

Are you proud of the Hoe Valley students for helping prevent the school from danger?
“Yes, I’m very proud!”.

What would you do if all of this was unsuccessful?
“Try and use the lessons in order to prevent it happening again.”

What do you fear most?
“People losing their lives”.

How are the staff helping prevent this earthquake from destroying the school?
“By doing the forward planning and smart thinking, we are preparing for the dangers to keep all our students safe”

Interview with student, Charlotte

So, how are you feeling about the earthquake?
”I guess I feel a bit worried, but I am pretty sure we are going to survive”.

What are you doing to minimise the damage?
“Well, we are preparing emergency hospitals and collecting fresh food and water.

Sounds good. Is there anything else that you’ve been doing to help??
“Well, I am also discovering the safe places to be when the earthquake strikes Hoe Valley. I have found out that a field would be good because there are no buildings to collapse and hurt people.”
