We attended the tournament at Salesians with the bare 7 due to illness. The girls were eager to get back into a competitive environment and the number of schools present at the tournament fuelled this desire. The first game was against Winston Churchill, the girls looked a little rusty during the game and were a second or two behind the Winston Girls. The speed of the game meant the girls struggled to catch up, despite coming into the game near the end and scoring a point right before the whistle. Final result: Lost 6-1.
The girls were then against SJB for game 2. There was a marked improvement with more movement off the ball and options available for people to pass to. The SJB GS was a great shot and made the most of the opportunities. Willow was able to get a point near the end of the game but was unfortunately cancelled out due to footwork. Final Result: Lost 6-0.
The third game pitted us against BDB. The movement came back and there was more confidence in the passing. There were a number of swift moves which brought the ball forwards and gave opportunities to attack the post. A number of these prevailed with Hannah finishing some good moves. There were stronger passes starting from the back which meant there were more bodies to pass to in the middle and final third. BDB did manage to get one point but it was not enough to overturn the score. Final Result: Won 3-1.
By the time the final game against Gordons came round the girls were more confident than in previous games but could not manage to repeat the moments of quality seen in the previous game. Gordons had some strong players who managed to control large parts of the game and they were finished by two excellent shooters. Final Result: Lost 16-0.
