Friday 23rd February
Year 7 boys made the short walk across to SJB on a freezing cold Friday afternoon for their long-awaited league match with the local school. The game was started equally with both sides linking some good passes together before SJB began to dominate the territory. Some outstanding defence from Kyle, Layton, Jamie and Sam with some remarkable goal keeping by Ethan kept a strong SJB side out for the first half. Captain Stewart tweaked some of the tactics at halftime and asked for the boys to start playing their field positioning slightly better and get some possession in the opposition half.
The boys went out for the second half and clearly stepped up their attacking game with a couple of chances early on but the ball ended up in the HVS box for the latter stages of the game. Again, some courageous defence by the lads coupled with some sensational individual efforts by Ethan in goal kept SJB out still. With only a few minutes left, one last effort was made by HVS as Alfie and Louis executed their final attack which unfortunately just sailed wide. Despite the 0-0 result, an incredibly exciting game of football was enjoyed by both teams.
The boys are already looking forward to their next game against Salesians School on the 5th March which will certainly be a good test for the team.
My thanks to the parents/carers that attended in support of the boys despite the weather conditions.
