As we close for Christmas today we wish all of our school and local community a Happy Christmas. We hope that students and staff alike enjoy a restful break and we look forward to seeing you all back refreshed when school re-opens on Monday 5th January 2026.
On Thursday last week, a group of Year 12 and Year 13 students visited St Peter's Hospital, where they had an interesting and engaging talk with a member of the team about breaks, fractures, and more, as well as practising their bandaging skills on each other! #SixthForm #AspiringDoctors #MedicalEducation
Kindness helps others, brings us together and boosts wellbeing. So let's use our kindness superpowers to spread some joy this December. Research shows that people who witness kind acts are more likely to pay it forward and help others. So your kindness has the potential to change the world, one small ripple at a time. Thanks for being part of HVS's caring community - your kindness genuinely makes a difference. #KindnessCalendar #ActionForHappiness #ActsOfKindness
Yesterday we welcomed over 40 employers in to school to hold mock interviews with our Year 11 and Year 13 students. This was a great opportunity for our students experience an authentic job interview from a wide range of business as well as to receive feedback on their CVs and is an integral part of our Work Ready agenda. Our visitors covered every area of business from Biochemistry to Journalism and everything in between! Huge thanks to all of the businesses who supported us with this event - it was a really fantastic afternoon. #WorkReady #Interviews #Year11 #Year13
We were delighted to welcome back some of last year's Year 11 cohort and their families for our annual GCSE Awards Evening. It was fantastic to be able to come together again to celebrate their achievements and award trophies. With words of encouragement, celebration and wisdom from our Headteacher, Ms Owoh and our Chair of Governors, Mrs Perkins, our invited guests and staff enjoyed a wonderful musical contribution from some of our current Year 10 Music students. Congratulations to Richmond, now in Year 12 at HVS, who was awarded the prestigious Head Teachers Award - we are so proud of you Richmond! #GCSEAwards #AwardsEvening #Year11
As a school community we came together this morning, both in person and virtually, in remembrance of those who served and continue to serve. Our short Service of Remembrance was held outside and was then live-streamed to every classroom in the school. Students and staff were invited to come to school today wearing their uniforms representing community groups they are part of which included Rainbows, Scouts, St John's Ambulance and Cadets. Staff who had previously served in the Forces joined in by wearing their medals with pride. Our thanks to our Head Girl, Eva for reading Ode of Remembrance, and also to Mr Darnell for his beautiful rendition of The Last Post. #RemembranceDay #RemembranceDay2025
Our Year 13 Biology students got hands-on with Chromatography today The photosynthetic pigments of a plant sample are separated into bands of colour by paper chromatography, and the rates of migration of the individual pigments will depend on their solubility, mass, and affinity to the paper. #Biology #ALevel #Chromatography
