Private Candidates

Hoe Valley School is pleased to accept private candidates to take GCSE and A-Level exams. Candidates must be at least 14 years old and provide the school with a legal and valid photo ID, for example a passport or driving license.

Summer 2026 Entries

Booking opens on 1st December 2025 and closes on 31st January or when we are full, whichever is sooner.

Full payments are required by 7th February, and we are unable to offer discounts or instalment plans.

Access Arrangements

We are not able to support all access arrangements as we have limited facilities. Therefore, we have the following options available when all the evidence required for the JCQ Relgulations has been provided.

  • Extra Time
  • Rest Breaks
  • Noise Cancelling Headphones
  • Limited Reader Pens
  • Limited Laptops

The evidence required is one of the following; EHCP that states 'must have', a consultants letter that states 'must have', a form 8 or a level 7 assessors certificate. Additionally, we require significant teacher comments over why extra time is used and for which subjects it will be required, that rest breaks have been trialled extensively and why extra time is needed, and at least 2 sets of formal mocks clearly showing extra time being used.

Exam Process

A-Levels

We are able to offer most A-Levels as a re-sit option with the majority of exam boards, but candidates will need to provide us with their UCI number.

To sit an A-Level exam for the first time, it has to be a subject with no coursework or practical elements.

GCSEs

We are able to offer the following GCSEs to private candidates. If you cannot see a subject on the list, please contact us here as we may be able to help.

  • AQA English Literature GCSE
  • Edexcel Maths GCSE
  • OCR Latin GCSE
  • Edexcel History GCSE
  • AQA RS GCSE
  • AQA Business GCSE
  • AQA or Edexcel Psychology GCSE

IGCSEs

We are able to offer the following Edexcel IGCSEs, but unfortunately are unable to support with any coursework elements. If you cannot see a subject on the list, please contact us here as we may be able to help.
